Quickstart guide

Welcome to Delm! This guide will help you understand how Delm works and how you can quickly display accurate delivery dates on your product pages.

How Delm works

Unlike other apps, Delm separates display from calculation.

  • The Widget (Display): Added via App Blocks or Liquid code, this is what the customer sees. It is context-aware: it detects the customer's country (IP), language, and selected variant, and sends this "Context" to the calculation engine. It then displays the result using dynamic placeholders (e.g., {{ delivery_completed }}) instead of hardcoded dates.
  • The Rules (Calculation): These determine what date is shown. The engine receives the context from the widget and applies your specific rules for processing, shipping, transit, and delivery.

Why the separation? We centralize calculation settings to avoid duplication and help you scale. You define your rules once, and they apply to every widget. If you need to change a schedule, you do it in one place, and it updates everywhere automatically.

How dates are calculated

Delm calculates dates in a specific 5-step workflow to ensure accuracy.

Calculation step

What it does

1. Order deadline

Checks the processing schedule to determine if the team can start working on this order today, or if it must wait until the next available working day.

2. Processing completed

Adds the time needed to get the order ready for shipping. It uses the processing schedule to count valid working days.

3. Shipping completed

Takes the "Processing completed" date and uses the shipping schedule to find the next available date to hand over the package to the carrier.

4. Transit completed

Adds the transit duration to the shipping date, using the transit schedule to count working days for the truck/plane journey.

5. Delivery completed

Finds the final delivery date based on the specific delivery schedule (e.g., can the package be delivered on a Saturday?).

Why is our calculation different? Real-world logistics involve multiple parties that often operate on different schedules. We separate these steps because your internal operations and the carrier's network are distinct services with different working days. For example, your warehouse might pack orders on weekends, but the carrier might not pick up shipments until Monday. Our system respects the unique schedule of every link in the chain.

Adding the widget to your store

The fastest way to display dates is using the Shopify Theme Editor.

  1. Go to your Shopify Admin > Online Store > Themes > Customize.
  2. Navigate to a Product page.
  3. In the sidebar, click Add block and select Delm Delivery Widget.
  4. Drag the block to where you want it to appear (e.g., under the "Add to Cart" button).
  5. Save your theme.

Delm Delivery Widget

Good to know: This widget is smart. It detects the customer's IP location and the current store language automatically. It also updates in real-time: if a customer switches variants (e.g., from 'Small' to 'Large'), the delivery date instantly recalculates based on the rules for that specific item.

Design & customization

We give you full control over the HTML and CSS to match your brand perfectly.

  1. Go to the Widget section in the Delm app.
  2. Select a Starter template to get a professional layout quickly.
  3. Customize colors and font sizes using the CSS editor.
  4. Change the text or icons in the HTML editor if needed.

Handling languages

Do not create multiple widgets just to change the text for different languages. One widget supports multiple languages. The widget will automatically display the correct translation based on the store's current language.

When to create a second widget

You usually only need one widget because it shares the same calculation rules across your entire store. Only create a new widget if you need a completely different layout for a different location.

  • Example: Use Widget A (detailed with icon) for the Product page, and Widget B (short text-only) for the Cart drawer.
