How is the delivery date calculated?
Delm calculates the delivery date in a specific 5-step workflow to ensure accuracy.
Calculation step | Relevant rules | What it does |
|---|---|---|
1. Order deadline | Processing schedule | Checks the processing schedule to determine if the team can start working on this order today, or if it must wait until the next available working day. |
2. Processing completed | Processing schedule, Processing time | Adds the time needed to get the order ready for shipping. It uses the processing schedule to count valid working days. |
3. Shipping completed | Shipping schedule | Takes the "Processing completed" date and uses the shipping schedule to find the next available date to hand over the package to the carrier. |
4. Transit completed | Transit schedule, Transit time | Adds the transit duration to the shipping date, using the transit schedule to count working days for the truck/plane journey. |
5. Delivery completed | Delivery schedule | Finds the final delivery date based on the specific delivery schedule (e.g., can the package be delivered on a Saturday?). |
Note: Holidays and blocked dates may apply to all steps in the calculation.
Why is our calculation different? Real-world logistics involve multiple parties that often operate on different schedules. We separate these steps because your internal operations and the carrier's network are distinct services with different working days. For example, your warehouse might pack orders on weekends, but the carrier might not pick up shipments until Monday. Our system respects the unique schedule of every link in the chain.
How holidays and blocked dates affect the calculation
By default, Delm automatically detects public holidays and skips them (pushing the date to the next available working day). You can also manually block specific dates.
1. Blocked dates (Manual)
These take precedence over everything.
Blocked dates overwrite public holidays and schedule settings. If you block a specific date here, the system will always treat it as a non-working day, even if your schedule says you usually work on holidays.
- Go to General > Block dates.
- Add the specific date you want to exclude (e.g., for a company retreat or annual inventory count).
2. Public holidays (Automatic)
The system automatically detects national holidays. You can control this behavior inside your Schedule settings (e.g., uncheck "No shipping on holidays" if your carrier works 365 days a year).
Processing and shipping steps
The system checks the holiday calendar of your Inventory Location.
- Example: If your product is stocked in a German warehouse, the system will skip German public holidays during the processing and shipping steps.
Transit and delivery steps
The system checks the holiday calendar of the Customer's Shipping Country (and region/state).
- Example: If the customer is in Germany, the system will skip German public holidays during the transit and delivery steps.
How to view upcoming holidays
You can check exactly which public holidays the system is currently tracking for any specific region.
- Go to the Preview section in the app.
- Click the Holidays link located at the bottom of the page.
- Select a country to view the list of upcoming holidays.
